Kingston is a beautiful City located on Lake Ontario between Toronto, Ottawa and also on the way to Montreal. It is known as the "Limestone City" and is home to many historical sites like Fort Henry as well as prominent educational facilities such as Queen's University, St. Lawrence College and Royal Military College. It was Canada's First Capital in 1841 but was settled in the 1600's and was also a major Military Centre during the War of 1812.
Sir John A MacDonald was Canada's first Prime Minister and owned numerous homes, one of which is in Kingston and is still run as a museum that showcases how he lived in that era. The Bellevue House is a prominent Museum and tourist attraction that holds a lot of history in our City.
Kingston has the best freshwater Sailing Harbour located at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour along Kingston's beautiful waterfront which hosted the sailing events for the Summer Olympics in 1976. There are also many Ontario Parks and amazing trails for tourists and habitants to explore as well as the bustling downtown area with so many local shops and restaurants! It has been home to the amazing Public Farmer's Market since 1801 where local farmers and entrepreneurs can showcase and sell their own products. It is located in the heart of downtown, just behind City Hall in Market Square which is also home to many outdoor entertainment events, summer movies in the square and an ice rink in the winter!
Kingston is also home to the oldest hospital in Canada known as Kingston General Hospital (KGH), which is still in operation with most of the original stone buildings still intact. The City also has Hotel Dieu Hospital and a brand new Providence Care facility that opened in 2017 that has provided many more rooms and treatment facilities for patients.
Some may recognize the top Canadian bands like the 'Tragically Hip' and the Glorious Sons, both of which hail from Kingston. There has been some fantastic talent that has been born and bred in our amazing City!
